HYALURONIC ACID โ Hyaluronic acid has a high degree of hygroscopicity. Spreading evenly across the skin surface, it forms a light film that actively retains moisture from the air. The film is slightly acidic, which inhibits bacterial proliferation, while at the same time creating a moist environment that improves cellular metabolic processes. High-molecular-weight (HMW) hyaluronic acid therefore delivers an excellent moisturizing, moisture-binding and smoothing effect on the skin surface. In its low-molecular-weight (LMW) form, it has an outstanding ability to bind and retain water molecules. The small size of the molecule allows hyaluronic acid to penetrate into the deep layers of the epidermis, stimulating the basal layer and influencing the dermal matrix. In the basal layer of the epidermis, hyaluronic acid plays a key role in the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes, and largely determines the parameters of the stratum corneum and the capacity of the epidermis for re-epithelialization. In addition, the low-molecular-weight form acts on fibroblast receptors, in particular CD44, slowing the degradation of the body’s own hyaluronic acid and enhancing its synthesis.
